Oakland Junior Grizzlies Announce Partnership with Puckmasters Detroit

PUCKMASTERS EXPANDS TO SHELBY WITH MAJOR NEW DEVELOPMENT & STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP WITH THE OAKLAND JUNIOR GRIZZLIES

DETROIT, MI — Puckmasters is expanding into Shelby through a landmark partnership with the Oakland Junior Grizzlies (OJG), one of the premier youth hockey organizations in the United States. This collaboration will establish the Puckmasters Oakland Junior Grizzlies Performance Center, a world-class hockey development hub designed specifically to elevate athlete training from 6U through 18U.

The Shelby facility will feature two real-ice training rinks, a state-of-the-art performance gym, skating treadmill, shooting and goalie lanes, and classrooms dedicated to cognitive training, mind, and video analysis. Combined with Puckmasters’ data-driven development model, the partnership introduces an unprecedented level of training access for Grizzlies players and families - deepening the organization’s commitment to developing elite athletes on and off the ice.

The OJG program, long recognized as a national powerhouse, views this expansion as a transformative investment in the development pathway for every athlete in the organization.

“The Puckmasters Oakland Junior Grizzly Performance Center will be a foundational piece in how we continue to develop players at the highest level, creating the perfect training and gameplay environment from 6U to 18U,” said Terry Bishop, President and Founder of the Oakland Junior Grizzlies. “Our vision aligns perfectly—relentless development, elite teaching, and giving players a road to become the best version of themselves. This partnership is not just about more ice. It’s about better players and better people.”

The partnership includes structured on-ice and off-ice programming, dedicated team training windows, private skill development, association-wide testing and benchmarking, and year-round access to Puckmasters’ coaching staff. Families across the Grizzlies program will benefit from an integrated development pipeline designed to support long-term growth, proper skill progression, and improved hockey IQ at all levels.

Puckmasters leadership emphasized how the Shelby facility represents the company’s next major step toward national expansion and long-term community impact.

“OJG has a long history of developing elite athletes, and this partnership allows us to work with great people in an association that is here for the right reasons in helping grow the game of hockey ” said Nick Griffin, Managing Member of Puckmasters. “Our mission is to give every athlete access to the training and habits that lead to real development, real confidence, and real results. With the Shelby expansion, we’re building something that will change the development landscape in Michigan for years to come.”

Joining the investment group is Team USA goaltender, NHL All-Star, Hart Trophy winner, and three-time Vezina Trophy–winning goaltender Connor Hellebuyck. “I’m extremely excited to get on board and share the same vision as Puckmasters to offer training to all ages on and off the ice! Puckmasters offers the full package training: mental, video, off ice and on ice which being a part of the vision in my early career helped tremendously and I look forward to seeing the next generation take the steps I wish were more accessible when I was younger!” said Hellebuyck.

Puckmasters Shelby will break ground this spring, with the facility scheduled to open in 2026. The partnership marks one of the most comprehensive youth hockey development collaborations in the state, setting a new benchmark for training quality, athlete progression, and year-round development support.
